Kinetic Connection, LLC

Synergy Through Movement

MY name is Jamie Stefanski.  I am the owner of Kinetic Connection, LLC, a Physical Therapist, an Anat Baniel Method of NeuroMovement® Practitioner and a mother of two children on the Autism Spectrum.  I have worked in the physical therapy field in some capacity since 1995 and have been licensed since 2004.  I became certified as an Anat Baniel Method of NeuroMovement® Practitioner in June of 2015.  I choose to become an Anat Baniel Method of NeuroMovement® Practitioner because I saw the benefits for my children and those of friends and I wanted to be able to provide it to them and others.

The Anat Baniel Method of Neuromovemt® is an expansion on somatic education.  Somatic education or mind-body training refers to the internal physical perception, proprioception sensation, and experiential learning.

NeuroMovement® is about connecting the brain and the body through movement.  Our limitations are often a problem of communication between the body and the brain.  Movement provides information the brain needs to grow and organize itself and in return the brain organizes all movement, thoughts, feelings, and action.

This work is based on Nine Essentials utilizing movement to communicate with the brain and take advantage of brain plasticity (the ability of the brain and nervous system to change structurally and functionally in response to experience) to upgrade the system.  The Nine Essentials are: Movement with Attention, The Learning Switch, Subtlety, Variation, Slow, Enthusiasm, Flexible goals, Imagination & Dreams, and Awareness.

The Anat Baniel Method of Neuromovement® is different from traditional interventions of teaching, therapy, or medical remedy, as it is not traditional “treatment” but a “lesson” providing the opportunity for the brain and body to work more efficiently together.

We don’t impose on the ‘student’what the ‘student’ is not able to do, we look at current abilities and needs, and seek ways to provide information to the brain to make connections and upgrade the system – to make sense of the non-sense that is their current reality and offer the option of communication and movement that works for them.

Stimulation is not necessarily information.  What might be information to one person may be imperceptible or even noise to another.  NeuroMovement® is about connecting and providing information and the opportunity for the perception of differences thus allowing the system to better organize itself, leading to increasing complexity and refinement of movement, thought, feeling, communication, and action.

A NeuroMovement® lesson is provided in two ways: a private lesson called Functional Synthesis or a group lesson called a Transformational Movement Lesson.  In a private Functional Synthesis lesson, what a practitioner does might look like gentle movements of the shoulder or legs, or maybe touching the back or feet, like shinning a flashlight on that spot.  The practitioner is doing just that, shinning a light through movement and touch in a way that informs the brain about possibilities with the outcomes being new movements or skills, or thinking with increased clarity, maybe overcoming speech or physical problems, improved sleep, improved interactions with family/peers/teachers, or improved focus and attention.  It’s about connecting with the student – not fixing but offering new options.  And in group Transformational Movement Lessons verbal guidance is provided to help the student find their own possibilities.

Anat Baniel is the founder of The Anat Baniel Method of NeuroMovement®, which is derived from the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education.  She expanded upon The Feldenkrais Method, taking it from somatic education of connecting with oneself to adding psychology and behavioral aspects of connecting with others as well and branching out to specialize in children as well as adults, making it her own method.  Anat Baniel has a background as a clinical psychologist, dancer, and Feldenkrias practitioner and trainer.  Feldenkrais was a nuclear physicist, engineer, and had a black belt in Judo.  He developed his method in his recovery from a debilitating injury, realizing that rather than focusing on the muscles and tendons associated with his injury, it was his brain that needed help finding new ways to organize his body.

Movement is the Language of the Brain.

My Testimonial

My Testimonial:
I am a physical therapist and mother of two children with special needs.  I have worked with people of all ages from birth to the elderly and in many capacities from hospitals, athletic training, aquatic therapy, outpatient orthopedic clinic, pediatric clinic, and schools, to natural environment (in the home and daycare).  I have utilized palliative modalities, exercise, and manual therapy.  However with all that said, after finding the Anat Baniel Method (ABM) and Feldenkrais I choose for my children to receive ABM lessons and to personally train to become an ABM practitioner, because I have seen the most benefit through this method in others, my children, and myself.  I want to help others reach their full potential by sharing this method and providing ABM lessons.  It has certainly transformed my life and improved my well being and that of my children, patients, and clients.

The Anat Baniel Method (ABM) of NeuroMovement(R) is:
In ABM we use movement to educate the brain, to create new neural patterns that affect and improve every aspect of one's life.  The information we give the brain through very specific varied developmental movements causes the brain to develop higher levels of function, coordination, and thinking capacities. ABM is built on the principles of physics, engineering and martial arts.  It's foundation is a scientific one and it is an educational modality that wakes up the brain to create new connections and new pathways, thus allowing the system to better organize itself.
